This is the fourth time Porto has been called up to his nation’s senior squad – the first came back in November 2019 for Euro 2020 qualifiers against Cyprus and Kazakhstan.
It’s been a year since he was last with Scotland, but he’s knuckled down, focused on his game, and worked hard to make sure he was put back in Steve Clarke’s mindset.
The Scots have three Nations League games during the November break as they take on the Republic of Ireland and Ukraine twice.
After received a call-up, Porto said: “I’m delighted. It’s something I wanted to achieve since my last one. I can’t wait to get back with the lads and stake a claim.
“I want to go in there and earn a right in training to make a claim to start the game. I’ve not got a cap yet, which is something I’ve always wanted to do in my career, and I think that feeling would certainly surpass anything I’ve done in football so far; that’s my next goal.”

Since his appointment as manager in the summer, Lee Johnson has been working really hard with the young defender to nurture his natural talent.
After gaining notification of his call-up, Johnson was delighted that Porto could see direct rewards from that work.
“We’re delighted for him. We knew it would be the case because he’s been in the eyeline for a number of squads before.
“The next stage for him is to get minutes on the pitch and to make sure he receives that cap. I think he’s ready to do that.
“Off the pitch he’s maturing, as are his on the pitch performances, and that goes hand in hand.
“He’s got such a will to win and is such a talented player that maintaining that focus and direction becomes the key.
“As players start to mature, and go through experiences, they become better on and off the pitch, and we’re certainly seeing that with Ryan.”
