It was a long time waiting for the 23-year-old, who was hailed for having an "outstanding" debut by National Team Coach Steve Clarke, as the Scots drew 0-0 against Ukraine, gaining that valuable point to ensure promotion.
When speaking after the match, the centre-back admitted what a huge moment it was for him.
“It was everything I hoped it would be and more,” smiled the defender.
“I’ve been involved in a few squads and watched this group grow into a fantastic team who’s got massive results.
“I was itching to get into the starting XI and luckily, I’ve managed to force my way in there. I’m just glad that I’ve taken my chance.
“It’s been a brilliant week. This group has come a long way under the gaffer, and I’m delighted to be a part of it.”

In what was a vital game, Porteous shone. Not only were his defensive stats the best throughout the 90 minutes, but he also made the highest number of accurate passes during the game.
“The manager has always put a lot of faith in me. It was a good back four, you’ve got players playing at the top level in the Champions League, Premier League, and for me to slip in there was easy enough.
“I had to concentrate on myself, but I thought it was a good game and I’m delighted to come away with a result as well.”
“Holding on for the last 10-15 minutes is never enjoyable, but that’s probably my best attribute, being strong defensively.
“We sat in and played when we needed to. To a man we were very good today. We could’ve showed more going forward but we came here to do a job and we did that.”
