The visitors took advantage of our slow start and opened the scoring inside the opening 10 minutes through a Sean Goss free-kick.
Second-half goals from Kevin van Veen secured the points for visitors as we struggled to assert ourselves in the match throughout the 90 minutes.
Speaking after the match, Hibs Manager Lee Johnson admitted it was an extremely poor result and performance from his side.
“It was a tough day for us. The fans going home will be really disappointed in us and we have let them down today.
“The performance was really disappointing – I didn’t see it coming in terms of the way we worked during the week. I was expecting a good, strong performance but there were too many inferior technical performances. Did we try? Yes, but we looked disjointed and we made too many bad decisions.
“I think you have to give Motherwell credit as well, it was a strong performance from them and they scored from three dead-ball situations.”
Johnson – who had to watch the match from the stands due to suspension – is determined to get a reaction from his players in our final three matches before the split.

“It was a difficult watch today, I was obviously up in the stand and I take responsibility for that. We tried to influence the game by changing our shape and bringing on the subs we did, but we just didn’t have enough players on the ball today.
“I haven’t lost faith in the individuals or the team. It was just a really bad day, we have struggled to get a level of consistency going – hopefully, that is a bad run out of our system and we can turn up to Dundee United, bounce back quickly and put in a positive performance."
