Our competitive campaign has already got underway in the UEFA Conference League, with the Hibees progressing to the third qualifying round of the competition after an emphatic 7-3 victory (on aggregate) over Andorran side, Inter Club d’Escaldes.

Now, attention quickly turns to the cinch Premiership campaign with the visit of St Mirren to Easter Road on Sunday. Speaking to Hibs TV ahead of the match, Lee Johson told us how much he was looking forward to the new domestic campaign.

“We are going into the season full of beans, after a good result on Thursday night”, Johnson told Hibs TV.

"We know St Mirren well, they had a fantastic season last year and they have kept a fairly consistent squad so we know how difficult the game will be.

“This is where we want to be, we want to be fighting on all fronts in every competition. We are only two games into our campaign so far and the next one is a very important league game.

“We are desperate to get off to a good start! It is going to be a very exciting season and I think on Thursday night everyone saw that. You can see the threats we pose, but we need to keep our best players fit and we need to make sure we keep getting better and better.”

Over the summer, the Club have completed nine new signings and Sunday could see several of the new arrivals make their domestic debut.

Unfortunately, this game will come too soon for our latest recruit, Dylan Vente, who is still awaiting work permit approval before he can make his Hibernian FC debut.

The Manager also has a goalkeeping dilemma to deal with both David Marshall and Jojo Wollacott sustaining injuries on Thursday night.

Speaking on team selection, Johnson explained the importance of squad depth at this stage of the season.

“It is important to not pick a team too early for games like this, there are a lot of different factors that come into it and we have already had a 90-minute meeting this morning to discuss all that.

“We have got a three-day turnaround for this one so we need to quickly assess the walking wounded but this is a great test of our strength in depth as a Football Club. We need to be able to potentially mix and match our squad in games over the next two or three weeks."
