Doidge led the line for the Hibees on Sunday afternoon and put in a solid shift against a stubborn Saints defence.

Speaking to Hibs TV following the defeat, Christian voiced his frustrations and is eager to get things back on track before Thursday night’s UEFA Conference League Qualifier against FC Luzern.

Giving his thoughts on the match, Doidge said:

“We’re obviously very gutted in there. We knew what to expect coming into the game and playing in this division you can’t start games like that. Conceding two goals is criminal for us.

“Coming in at half-time we changed a few things and we got two goals that got us back in the game, the stadium lifted, and it felt like there was only going to be one winner. They go on the counterattack and score, so we’re extremely frustrated with how the game has gone.”

After a lacklustre first half, we looked much more threatening following the half-time break with Doidge grabbing a goal and providing an assist for Adam Le Fondre on his league debut.

“He (the gaffer) gave us a good talking to at half time. We came out and changed a few things, we went more direct into me and tried to get bodies around me and that seemed to work a lot.

“Alfie came on and scored his goal and Elie did brilliantly for my goal. Getting back in the game we felt like we had them where we wanted them. They’ve set up a counterattack and scored, so it’s a real blow.

“I want to help the team get points on the board, if I’m scoring or assisting it’s good for us. I’m happy to score, but it’s all about the result in this league and we really wanted to win the first game of the season as it’s a good platform to start.”

Despite a disappointing result, focus has to be put towards Thursday evening as the Hibees host FC Luzern in the Third Qualifying Round of the UEFA Conference League.

Christian believes this is an excellent opportunity to bounce back and give Easter Road a boost.

“We’re looking forward to it. We had a good result in the last tie.

“It’s good to get back out there straight away and put in a positive result. I’m looking forward to it and I know the lads are looking forward to it in there as well."
