After a slow start that saw us concede two early goals in the first half, we fought back in the second half to draw level before Alex Greive headed home the winner for the Saints in the closing stages.
Speaking to Hibs TV after the match, Johnson told us how disappointed he was with the first-half performance and the overall result.
“The feeling is one of disappointment – there is no doubt about that. We have done ever so well to get ourselves back in the game and then we concede a goal – albeit against the run of play – which was poorly defended.
“We didn’t start well enough – that was clear to everyone in the stadium. We didn’t have our usual personality at home. We have real pace on the flanks but we didn’t utilise that nearly enough, we made poor passes, we allowed them to do a job on us and then we conceded at poor times of the game.”
Johnson highlighted the importance of learning from this defeat as quickly as possible as the games come thick and fast over the next few weeks.
“We need to be able to cope with playing Thursday and Sunday for the next few weeks. It was a waste of opportunity today not only for a point but at the start of the game for three points.
“We need to go again, we have to turn around and learn our lessons – it’s as simple as that.
“We got the crowd going in the second half and we got it back to 2-2. It looked like there was only one team that was going to win it, but we started to rush things a bit and lost our momentum.
“I could’ve set that scenario up 100x in training and if we applied the correct defensive protocol then we don’t concede that goal – that is the disappointing thing for me, but we have to learn and we have to learn fast.”
