THE LOWDOWN
Lee Johnson’s side host FC Luzern on Thursday 10 August, 2023 in the first leg of our Third Round UEFA Europa Conference League Qualifier; kick-off at 7.30pm at Easter Road.
Hibs progressed through the Second Round of the competition after an emphatic victory at Easter Road. Goals from Martin Boyle (2), Christian Doidge, Josh Campbell (2), and Elie Youan saw the Hibees run out 6-1 winners, a result that overturned the first leg defeat.
Our opponent, FC Luzern, also progressed through the Second Round after beating Swedish side Djurgårdens IF Fotboll over two legs.
They ran out 2-1 winners in Sweden before being held to a 1-1 at the Swissporarena. In both games they came from behind.
A reminder that UEFA abolished the away goals rule in June 2021.
The winner of the round will face English Premier League side Aston Villa in the Play-Off Round of the UEFA Europa Conference League.

THE OPPOSITION
Like Hibs, FC Luzern have begun their top-flight campaign in Switzerland. They are currently three games into their new campaign and have won one, drawn one, and lost one, sitting seventh in the league.
They come into this game off the back of a defeat to Elie Youan’s old side St. Gallen.
This is the Swiss side’s 15th time in European competition, and they have progressed past the Third Round qualifiers on two occasions. Last season they were beaten in the Third Round qualifiers by Dutch side Feyenoord.
In terms of playing squad there may be a few players that Hibs supporters recognise. In particular, their number 7, Max Meyer, who has earned four caps for Germany and had a three-year stint in the English Premier League.

SINGING SECTION TRIAL
Hibernian FC will once again be moving the singing section to the Famous Five Lower Tier for this European fixture as per our fixture against Inter Club d'Escaldes.
This decision has been made following the success of the UEFA Youth League games and our Second Round Conference League Qualifier as the Club looks to improve the matchday atmosphere at Easter Road.
If you currently sit in the Famous Five Lower Tier and would like to move out of the singing section, you will be able to relocate to any home stand of Easter Road.
