Darren McGregor named an extremely youthful side, which included 14-year-old Arran McSporran who was making the step up in age group after a successful spell away with the Scotland U15s squad.

The hosts got off to a perfect start, opening the scoring inside the first 10 minutes at Lochinch Sports Pavilion.

A ball over the top was met first time by the Queen’s Park number 7, who crossed first time for their striker who applied an excellent one-touch finish to take the lead.

Our first chance of the game came midway through the first half when we won possession deep inside the Queen’s Park half. Dean Cleland was quickest to react, pouncing on a loose ball in the penalty area – but his effort flew just over the bar.

The hosts doubled their lead on the hour mark, in a similar fashion to their first goal. The wee Hibees were opened up on the right-hand side before the ball was fizzed across our six-yard box and eventually turned in by a black and white shirt with another smart first-time finish.

Hibs ‘keeper Ryan Mallon did well to keep the scoreline down and made several important stops throughout the evening, as Queen’s Park’s experience prevailed – running out 2-0 winners in the end.

Hibs Starting XI: Ryan Mallon, Alfie Smith, Jamie Bulloch, Reuben McAllister, Dean Cleland, Josh Landers, Zak Bruce, Joseph McGrath, Jamie McMurdo, Sean Brannen, Arran McSporran.
