There wasn’t much between the two sides over the 90 minutes, but in the dying moments of the game, Lawrence Shankland showed a moment of quality to seal all three points for Hearts.

When speaking to Hibs TV after the game, Nick Montgomery gave his thoughts.

“I’m devastated. It’s a cruel game at times. I don’t think we deserved that. Ultimately, it’s just one lapse of concentration and one moment of quality from a quality striker. We have to be better in that moment. We have to move on from that.

“I said to the boys I can’t ask for anymore from them other than maybe a little bit more quality in the final third. I thought we had enough chances. I can’t fault their effort. We limited them to very little.

“It’s one moment, a little bit of a mistake letting the ball bounce from a long kick. Shankland backed in, but we have to be stronger. It’s one bit of unfortunate luck and it’s a quality finish, which was the difference in the game.”

The Hibees have one more game before the winter break as they take on Motherwell, and Montgomery knows he has to pick up the players ahead of that one.

“The boys are devastated,” he said. “We have to move on now and accept it. It’s hard to accept, but all we can do is prepare for Motherwell, the last game before the winter break, and make sure we’re ready.”

Our Head Coach also provided an update on Josh Campbell who was stretchered off early in the second half.

“I don’t think it’s as bad as first thought. I think it’s a badly sprained ankle. We will have to wait for a scan to see how long he will be out for.

“He’s added to the long list of players we’ve got injured at the minute. We’re hoping to get some back in the winter break because we are light at the minute in numbers.”
