A first half header from Josh Landers proved to be the difference between the two sides as the wee Hibees put in a hard shift against a talented Hamilton team.

Friday night’s victory now means Gareth Evans’ side are unbeaten in their last six look to build momentum heading into the second half of their season.

Evans was thrilled with his team’s performance and gave plaudits to the younger players who stepped up to the plate in the absence of a few senior starters.

Speaking to hibernianfc.co.uk following the 90 minutes, Evans said:

“It was a hard 90 minutes, as you always expect when you play against Hamilton, they’re always very good at youth level.

"We had a younger team tonight and it was really pleasing the way they stood up against the Hamilton players, who are a good team, so we’re delighted with the younger ones this evening.”

After taking an early lead through a corner, the wee Hibees dug deep and defended well to ensure they came away with the three points.

Evans believes professionalism on both sides of the ball is all part of their education through the youth ranks and has seen continued progress over the course of this season.

“It’s something we work on and its obviously part of their education” he said.

“Winning isn’t the be all and end all, but the way they’ve started defending a little bit better and attacking a little bit better probably tells you we’re doing something right.

“It’s nice to win these games, they’re playing for Hibs, and they’re expected to compete, they’re expected to do well even if they are younger players.

"They need to understand what it means to play for Hibs and a lot of the time it is going out and trying to win football matches.”

There's a big game for the youngsters on Tuesday night as they take on Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Youth League.
