The attacking midfielder has played a key role in Steve Kean’s Development Squad that competed in the UEFA Youth League and grabbed the winner in last week’s win over Dundee at HTC.

Aged just 18, Zaid explained to hibernianfc.co.uk what his focus has been following the European heart-break against Borussia Dortmund.

“The lads were down after Dortmund because we were all loving the experience of European football, but we had to regroup and come together. We showed that against Dundee and want to show everyone what we can do.

“With no European football, the main goal is to play well and develop, so we can get a chance in the First Team squad.

“The games against Dortmund and Nantes gave us a taste of playing in-front of crowds against top opposition; that’s the aim for everyone now.”

With regular SPFL Reserve games in the schedule for the second part of the season, Zaid is focused on making sure he takes his chance.

By performing consistently on a regular basis for the Development Squad, he knows that might give him the opportunity to step up and train with the First Team, something he’s already experienced.

“Most lads have trained with the First Team and coming off those it makes you sharper, helps your development and makes you raise your game.

“It’s a huge motivation for us and shows us where we need to get to.”

Zaid and his teammates will be back in action tomorrow (Tuesday 21 February, 2023) away at Ayr United.

The game will take place at Townhead Park in Cumnock and kick-off at 2pm. Supporters are allowed the watch the game.

Hibs Development Squad are currently top of the cinch Reserve League with seven points from three games. Ayr United are seventh with four points from four outings.
