There were several turnovers during the opening ten minutes of the match as both teams looked to gain control of the ball.

Michaela McAlonie attempted to break the deadlock in the 15th minute with an effort from range, but her shot was blocked on the edge of the area.

We found the opener in the 22nd minute thanks to an excellent strike from McAlonie. Following a deflected effort, the ball fell to the McAlonie inside the box who then rifled a shot with her left foot into the bottom corner and beyond Charlotte Parker-Smith.

Following the opener, we began to see more of the ball and dictate the tempo of the match.

After a foul on Eilidh Adams on the edge of the area, we were awarded a free kick around the half-hour mark. Siobhan Hunter took the shot but her effort went over the bar.

We limited Hearts Women to few opportunities during the first 45 minutes and went into the break with a deserved lead thanks to McAlonie’s opener.

Hearts Women made a good start to the second half as they saw much more of the ball and began to dictate the tempo.

Despite a succession of Hearts corners around the 55th minute, we stayed strong at the back and defended well to relieve all danger posed.

Despite the host’s pressure early in the second half, we managed to grow back into the game and won a corner in the 65th minute. Leah Eddie played an excellent ball into the box, which was met by Joelle Murray, however, the skipper’s header was denied by an excellent save from Parker-Smith.

The hosts found the equaliser in the 89th minute through captain Georgia Hunter. Following a save from Benni Haaland to deny Ciara Grant from scoring a free kick, Hearts Women were awarded a corner. The ensuing delivery was met by Hunter who powered her header into the back of the net.

This proved to be one of the final actions of the match as the referee blew for full-time shortly after.

As the match ended in a draw, a penalty shootout was required to crown the winners of the Capital Cup.

Hearts Women would go on to win the shootout 6-5 and pick up the Capital Cup.
