The versatile defender – who is comfortable at both centre-back and right-back – has extended his stay with the Hibees until summer 2025.

Kanayo joined Hibs in 2021 and has gone from strength to strength ever since, flourishing for the U18s and winning the CAS U18 Elite Youth League in his first season as a Hibee.

The defender’s performances for the U19s in Europe and the Hibs Dev Squad in the cinch Reserve League have earned Kanayo a call-up to Lee Johnson's matchday squad on several occasions this season.

The 18-year-old will now join up with John Potter’s Kelty Hearts side for the remainder of the season, whilst continuing to train and play with the Hibs Dev Squad.

Hibs Academy Director, Steve Kean commented: “Kanayo has been one of the standout performers for us this season and is thoroughly deserving of his new deal.

“He has really developed since he joined the Club and has shown he is comfortable playing in several different positions.

“In the short-term, his loan move to Kelty Hearts will give him a good opportunity to experience regular senior football at a high level, which will put him in good stead for fighting for a place in the Hibs First Team squad next season.”
