Kevin Nisbet Hat-trick Hero

Where better place to start than with our hat-trick hero, Kevin Nisbet!

Since returning from an ACL injury which saw the striker side-lined for 10 months, Nizzy has come back stronger and has made a massive impact for the Hibees.

Nisbet was prolific in front of goal, bagging his hat-trick with two fine finishes and a tap-in from two yards out.

That takes his tally to five in five games for the season! Check out his match stats below.

Aiden McGeady’s Return

Aiden McGeady made a welcome return to the starting XI – making his first league start for the Club since he joined in the summer.

McGeady played the best part of the 90 minutes and his influence and ability were clear for all to see. The winger displayed his usual array of tricks, flicks, and flair and set up Kevin Nisbet’s first goal with a pinpoint cross in the first half.

After the match, Lee Johnson praised the winger for his display and footballing IQ which helped raise the standard of the team and see out the result.

Speaking to the media, McGeady himself admitted he was delighted to be back playing football and said he owed it to the fans and the Club to produce performances in green and white.

Elie Youan's Impact

Only two players in the cinch Premiership have more assists than Élie Youan. The French forward has contributed six assists and a goal in the league this season.

Élie has re-found his form since the Winter World Cup break and has enjoyed a consistent run of starts in the team. Youan set up Kyle Magennis twice on Christmas Eve and was impressive once again at Fir Park.

The forward set up Nisbet’s second goal of the afternoon – timing his run perfectly to get in behind before unselfishly squaring it to Nisbet to tap home from close range.

Fir Park – Happy Hunting Ground

The win on Sunday meant we extended our unbeaten run against The Steelmen to seven games (all comps).

In particular, Fir Park has proved to be a happy hunting ground for the Hibees of late. We have now won on four of our last five visits to Fir Park and are unbeaten in Motherwell since 2019.

Over 1,200 Hibees made the trip along the M8 for another away day to remember and were in full voice from start to finish.

Important Three Points

Johnson dedicated the win to the Hibernian FC supporters and described it as an important three points for the Club.

The win lifts us up to seventh in the cinch Premiership, in what is a tightly compact league table. Only three points separate us and Aberdeen in fourth, with St Mirren, Livingston and St Johnstone in the mix as well.

Johnson said: “It was a big game, a big win. It nudges us closer to where we want to be, and further away from where we don’t want to be.”
