Gareth Evans' side made the trip to Braidhurst High School in Motherwell last Friday (13 January, 2023) for their first game of the year as they looked to continue their impressive run of form.
The wee Hibees went into the game off the back of three straight wins beating Aberdeen (6-2), Celtic (2-1) and Hearts (5-0) in their last three matches of 2022.
Unfortunately, we had to settle for a point in the end as we were held to a 1-1 draw with Motherwell.
It was a relatively scrappy first half with neither side creating many clear-cut chances in the opening stages. In the second 45, the Hibees found their rhythm and opened the scoring through Ethan Laidlaw.
The 18-year-old took his chance brilliantly picking up the ball just inside the opposition half before driving at the defence. Laidlaw took it around both Motherwell centre backs before composing himself and slotting it calmly past the 'keeper.
Unfortunately, we couldn’t see the game out and the 'Well equalised in the second half after we failed to clear our lines and the home side capitalised.
Despite creating plenty of chances in the second half and hitting the woodwork, we had to settle for a point extending the wee Hibees unbeaten run in the league to four matches.
Up next, Gareth Evans' side host Rangers this Friday (20 January) at HTC; kick-off at 7pm.
