Ethan Laidlaw bagged a brace as the Hibs Dev Squad left Gussie Park with all three points on what was a productive afternoon for Steve Kean's side.

Going into this one, The Terrors sat top of Group 1 with the Hibs Dev Squad sitting bottom in sixth.

But on the day, the gap in the league table was not reflected on the pitch - in what was a tightly contested tie from start to finish.

Chances were few and far beaten in the first 45 minutes at Gussie Park, with neither keeper being properly challenged in what was a relatively even opening half.

As the game progressed into the second half, it began to open up with Hibs looking the more threatening of the two teams.

Both Jacob Blaney and Josh O'Connor forced good saves from Dundee United 'keeper Jack Newman as we began to turn the screw.

Eventually, our pressure paid off and Ethan Laidlaw opened the scoring, applying the finishing touch to a well-worked move. The striker played a smart one-two with Malek Zaid before slotting past Newman to give the Hibees the lead.

Second-half substitute Emmanuel Johnson nearly doubled our advantage moments later, the American was played in by Josh O'Connor but his effort was well saved.

Laidlaw eventually sealed all three points for the visitors, grabbing his and the Hibee's second of the afternoon in true strikers fashion. Josh O'Connor's free-kick was saved and parried out into the danger area with Laidlaw making no mistake to turn in the rebound.

The win lifts the Hibees off the foot of the table and up into joint second of cinch Reserve League Group 1 on six points.
