Johnson: We’re Massively Disappointed
Men's First Team
22 January 23
A goal in the first half, and two in the second, knocked the Hibees out of the cup competition as our Edinburgh rivals showed a clinical nature at Easter Road.
When speaking after the game to Hibs TV, Johnson expressed his frustration.
“We’re massively disappointed. We had a strong starting XI and we showed that in elements of our performance. We’ve got to score the first goal more often than we are doing.
“Hearts scored from their first attack, which made it difficult. The decision Porto made to give away the foul wasn’t good, and then we haven’t defended the cross well.
“We were on the front foot for the rest of the half but didn’t have that luck or quality to get that finish; that’s the disappointing thing, we played well in patches, but in both boxes we fell short.”
As alluded to above, Johnson was particularly upset with his side’s defending.
“Second goal I was really disappointed. Third goal you have to scratch off in terms of the number of bodies we had forward trying to change the game. First goal in my eyes was a bad decision, but you have to defend it.
“We had numerous opportunities with Josh Campbell hitting the post, Cadds had a clean effort on goal, lots of balls flashing across the box, but an earlier delivery would suit us more in terms of the strikers knowing when the ball is coming in.
“It’s a tough one to take, the boys are disappointed, but we continue to fight.”
