Born in Manchester, England – CJ spent over 10 years within the Manchester City Academy, progressing through the age groups all the way through to the First Team.
CJ enjoyed a very successful period with the City Academy, where he won various pieces of silverware. During the 2019/20 campaign, he played 16 times for the U18s helping the young Citizens win the Premier League North Title and the corresponding National Title.
That season, the versatile defender – who can play centre-back, right-back or defensive midfield – then helped the U18s win the FA Youth Cup, beating Chelsea 4-2 in the final.
In 2020/21, Egan-Riley made the step up to play for the Under-23 side and made 14 appearances helping City win the Premier League 2 Title.
The following campaign, he was given the captaincy of the Manchester City Elite Development Squad securing back-to-back Premier League 2 titles.
After impressing for the Under-18s and Manchester City Development Squad, Pep Guardiola awarded Egan-Riley his first senior appearance in September 2021 – at the age of 18 the defender played the full 90 minutes in a 6-1 victory over Wycombe Wanderers in the Carabao Cup.
Egan-Riley went on to make two more appearances for Guardiola’s side, keeping a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw against Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League last 16.
His final Manchester City First Team appearance came as a substitute in a 5-0 victory over Newcastle United at the end of the 2021/22 campaign as City went on to lift the Premier League title.
In the summer of 2022, he moved to Burnley to link up with former Man City & Belgium Captain, Vincent Kompany. During his time with the Clarets, he’s made six appearances; three in the English Championship and three in the EFL Cup before making the switch to join the Hibees this window.
On the international front, EJ has represented England at every level from under-15 to under-19 level, making 26 appearances in total for the Young Lions.

He has also featured for the Republic of Ireland at U16 level, which he qualifies for through his heritage.
CJ will come straight into the First Team squad and will be available for selection for our upcoming cinch Premiership clash with Ross County on Tuesday.
