Malik Zaid and Jair Tavares were on target for the Hibees to give us a two-goal lead, but we were pegged back in the second half and ended up settling for a draw at Raydale Park.
Guillaume Beuzelin’s side will be disappointed to not come away with the victory in the Borders, despite creating the majority of chances and hitting the woodwork several times in the second half.
Max Boruc started in goals behind a back four of Rory Whittaker, Darren McGregor, Owen Hastie and Oscar MacIntyre.
Robbie Hamilton, Alfie Smith and Malik Zaid occupied the midfield with Jair Tavares, Harry Wright and a trialist playing in the forward areas.
The Hibees got off to a great start when Zaid opened the scoring after a well-worked move. McGregor pinged the ball out to Jair on the wing, the Portuguese did well to beat his man and get to the by-line before cutting it back to Zaid who supplied a fantastic finish.
Jair turned from provider to scorer for the second goal, this time cutting inside from the right and curling the ball into the far corner to double our advantage.
The hosts got themselves back in the game in the second half with a well-taken goal of their own, before adding a second.
We continued to press for a winner, creating numerous chances – particularly from set pieces – but we couldn’t find that final finish and it ended all square.
