Former Motherwell striker – Kevin van Veen – opened the scoring inside the first 10 minutes but Josh Campbell struck twice in the second half to turn the game on its head and round off an impressive victory for Hibs.
Speaking after the match, Lee Johnson’s shared his thoughts on the performance and explained what he wants to see from his side going forward.
“I thought it was really good exercise and a really good victory for us. We were up against a good technical side, but I thought we showed them a bit too much respect in the first 20 minutes and we sat off them.
“They dominated those first twenty minutes but we popped up out of the dugout and started to get us on the front foot a bit more. We went man-for-man and went 2 v 2 at the back and we began to suffocate them.
“Our intensity became too much for them. That is how I want to see us play – on the front. I would rather get it wrong two or three times a season but still try and press high and play on the front foot.”
Up next, the competitive action gets underway as we face Inter Club d'Escaldes over two legs in the UEFA Conference League Second Round Qualifier – a challenge Johnson is looking forward to.
“I’ve just come back from the Faroe Islands to watch our next opponents. We know will be up against a really well-coached team, they’re strong, direct and physical side.
“We are all really looking forward to it, we know they will have weaknesses and we need to exploit those. We will need to have an A-grade attitude to make sure we come back to Easter Road with a lead to protect.”
