The last two weeks have been incredibly difficult for everyone at the Football Club following the passing of Ron, but during that Johnson and his team had to continue preparing for this afternoon’s cinch Premiership match.

After going a goal down, Johnson’s men rose to the occasion, and our Manager was delighted with the performance.

“That’s for Ron and the family. We wanted to make it an occasion where we performed like we needed to; that was why it was enjoyable.

“When you go a goal down here on a difficult surface, in difficult circumstances, the boys had to dig in and they did that, whilst showing quality and flair. On another day we could’ve had more goals too.

“I’m really, really happy. It was great to bring on top quality players, which showed the strength on our bench, and that’s still without the likes of McGeady and Boyle.”

A key to the win, and the first goal in particular, was the game-plan laid out using the Hibs pace to get behind the Livingston back-line.

“We’d worked a lot in the week about trying to get in-behind them,” explained Johnson.

“We had a few opportunities and turned them down, but the one Will Fish played early in-behind was excellent because you’re not catching Elie.

“Matthew (Hoppe) had a good opportunity too in the second half and those runs also led to the sending off.

“We’re a team that needs penetrative runs from our midfield and forwards.

“The levels of composure, speed in-behind and battling quality show really good signs of us moving forward.”

The final goal was scored by Mykola Kuharevich who made his first appearance since the middle of November.

“We’re very happy for Myko,” smiled Johnson. “He must’ve had two or three chalked off from VAR and the one at Dundee United, which should’ve been a goal. He deserved that celebration as much as anyone.”

At the end of the game there were special moments shared between the players, the staff, and most importantly the incredible 3,500 Hibs fans that made the journey to the Tony Macaroni Arena.

Our Manager explained how much he enjoyed sharing that moment with them.

“We want that connection. We’re building this story together and battling through every hurdle.

“We’ve had bad times this year, took our fair share of criticism, but all the players can do is bounce back, respond, and keep building their performances.

“The January recruits have really helped us in terms of their personality and football ability, and we feel like a side that’s got a strong spirit.

“We’re going into two difficult games, but it’s another big emotional occasion on Wednesday and if the fans support us like they did today, then we will have a chance.”
