Despite taking an early lead, The Gers responded almost instantly from the penalty spot before going ahead in the first-half. Two more goals in the second 45 from Antonio Čolak and Fashion Sakala sealed the points as the Glasgow side ran out 4-1 winners.
Speaking to Hibs TV after the match, David Marshall admitted the overall feeling was of disappointment at the full-time whistle.
“We are disappointed in the dressing room. We came into the match on a run of good form, we understand they are a good team and have been on a good run but when we play at Easter Road we expect to push these teams a lot closer than we did tonight.
“Goals change games, we started the game extremely well coming off the back of an emotional tribute and start to the game. But it was disappointing to concede a penalty so sooner after going ahead.
“Once Rangers got a goal back they got their confidence back. In the end, our individual errors cost us tonight – when you play the Old Firm you need to be at your best and not give away easy goals."
Ahead of kick-off Easter Road paid tribute to our late Executive Chairman Ronald J Gordon, with a spine-tingling rendition of ‘Sunshine On Leith’, belted out by the Hibernian FC faithful.
Marshall admitted that the pre-match atmosphere helped inspire the team and is determined to not let tonight’s result spoil what has been a solid start to 2023.
“It was a special moment before kick-off, we were held in the tunnel for a minute and a half before we came out into the noise. I have been in some amazing atmospheres in my career, but that was a really special one. The crowd really did the family proud tonight.

“We almost have two mini run-ins here in our next 10 games. We have five important games before the split and we need to put ourselves in the best possible position pre-split. The performance tonight wasn’t good enough but we can’t let our confidence drop, we need to be realistic.
“Our performances in the last two months have been good, we have shown that we are in a better place now and we need to continue to prove that to everyone in the next five games.”
