Rangers 1 Hibs 3 (November, 2021)

Our last visit to Hampden at this stage of the competition was a truly memorable one!

Coming into the match on a four-game losing streak, the Hibees defied the odds with a stunning first-half display which saw Martin Boyle score a hat-trick inside the first 38 minutes.

Our starman was quickest to react, pouncing on a loose ball from a corner to fire us into the lead after nine minutes before showing excellent composure to double our advantage after being played through one-on-one.

Boyle completed his hat-trick by smashing a penalty down the middle of Allan McGregor’s goal to send the travelling Hibs fans into a state of sheer delirium and round off an unforgettable day at Hampden.

Hibs 2 St Johnstone 1 (January 2016)

This time at Tynecastle, the Hibees progressed to the League Cup Final with a hard-fought win over St Johnstone in early 2016.

Jason Cummings opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Joe Shaughnessy headed in an equaliser five minutes later.

In the end, John McGinn had the final stay – firing in an excellent left-footed shot from the edge of the area, celebrating wildly in front of the Hibs fans in the snow across the city.

St Johnstone 1 Hibs 3 (January 2007)

Again, Tynecastle was the venue when the two sides met in the League Cup last four back in 2007.

Hibs took the lead after three minutes when Steven Fletcher swept home Ivan Sproule’s cutback to give the Hibees a dream start.

However, the Saints hit back with 15 minutes to play, with Jason Scotland looping his header over Hibs ‘keeper Andy McNeil to send the game to extra time.

But the Hibees held their nerve with David Murphy catching the St Johnstone ‘keeper off guard with a free-kick from 30 yards out. Benjelloun then sealed the victory in the closing stages, rounding the keeper to book our place in the League Cup Final against Kilmarnock at Hampden Park. The rest, of course, is history.

Rangers 1 Hibs 1 *Hibs win 4-3 on penalties (February 2004)

Daniel Andersson was the hero as Hibs progressed to the CIS Cup Final after a nerve-wracking victory over Rangers on penalties.

Andersson saved Mikel Arteta’s penalty in the first half, before Michael Mols gave the Gers the lead just before the interval.

Hibs hit back however through super-sub Stephen Dobbie. The striker had only been on the pitch for a minute before he found the back of the net to send the game to extra time.

Neither side could find a winner in the final 30 minutes which meant the game was eventually decided by a penalty shootout.

In front of the Rangers support, Andersson saved penalties from Michael Ball and Zura Khizanishvili's, with Gary Caldwell, Scott Brown, Tom McManus and Colin Murdock netting the all-important penalties for the Hibees to book our place in the 2004 Final.

Hibs 1 Rangers 0 (September 1991)

Keith Wright scored the only goal of the game as Hibs beat Rangers to progress to the 1991 Skol Cup Final.

Wright headed home Michael Weir’s cross in the first half, which proved to be the crucial goal of the game to set up a cup final showdown with Dunfermline Athletic.

Wright was on target again in the final, sealing the 2-0 victory after Tommy McIntyre slotted home a penalty early to bring the trophy back to Leith for only the second time in our history.
