16 years after last wearing the famous Hibernian FC shirt, the Hibs Academy prospect was back wearing it again as he, alongside former teammates, celebrated the career of David Gray.

Bringing his usual competitive spirit, Brown’s side ran out winners against a Manchester United XI, but result aside, he admitted how privileged he was to be playing in the match.

“It was an honour to play in Dave’s testimonial because of what he did for the club and what he’s still doing for the club. It was a great turn out from the fans as well. They appreciate him as much as he appreciated them.

“It was lovely to be back in a Hibs strip too. I came back to Easter Road many times in a Celtic strip and whether I played for them or Hibs it was all about winning games. I had that drive in me and we did well to win today.

“There was always going to be that competitive edge in the game. I went to see the United lads before the game and asked Phil Bardsley if he was wearing shinnies, because if he was, I was!

“They’re all good lads and good pros. Huge respect for them coming up here and doing it for Dave.”

The only goal of the game was scored by David Gray, and one that was very fitting for him.

“A slide tackle,” he laughed. “A Dave Gray special!”

“He’s still fit, you can see he looks after himself and he’s got quality. He showed that over the years and he’s still got that drive!”
