Everyone came together – including thousands of Hibernian FC supporters – to show their appreciation for David Gray and his impact on the Football Club.
Since his arrival last month, ‘Monty’ and Dave have become incredibly close with the former admitting that it’s like they’ve known each other years.
Its testament to that relationship that our Head Coach led the Hibernian XI and ran out in green and white.
“I really enjoyed being back out on the pitch and was really honoured that he asked me to be involved. He said second half ‘let’s throw some subs on and give the game some spark’, so it was great to come on and be out there with some fantastic players.
“I think that was the perfect testimonial. Dave tackled one in at the back post, so it couldn’t have got any better!
“Everyone was happy for Dave to get the winner and it’s a day that’ll live long in the memory of Dave and his family.”

From day one, it was clear to our Head Coach that Hibernian FC has a real family feel, and once again, that was evident on Sunday.
“Massive thanks for the fans from everyone at the Club for showing up, giving up their time, to show their support for Dave and his family,” said Montgomery.
“An emotional day for him but one he deserved. I know he’s not one for the limelight, but he deserves this and the celebration of his career.”

Many of those supporters were off their seats when they thought Monty had a chance to mark his Hibs playing debut with a goal!
“There was an opportunity,” he laughed. “I made a 40-50 yard run and heard Dave screaming on the overlap, so I thought I’d be unselfish and roll Dave in, but Phil Bardsley – someone I used to play with at Sheffield United – managed to track back and get a foot in. I probably should’ve shot!”
