The Hibees host high-flying St Mirren on Wednesday – with both sides coming into this cup tie off the back of positive results.

St Mirren have made their best start to a top-flight campaign in 75 years, and are currently on a 10-match unbeaten run.

Meanwhile, the Hibees have improved over the last month since the arrival of new Head Coach, Montgomery.

With everything to play for Wednesday evening, Montgomery told Hibs TV how excited he was for the occasion.

“We are all really looking forward to this quarter-final on Wednesday night, hopefully we can get a decent crowd. I know it’s a midweek game but the fans were excellent last week and they really got behind us.

“It’s a big game, it’s a quarter-final of the competition with a place in the semi-final at Hampden up for grabs, so both teams will be going out to win the game for sure.

“They have had a really good start, but it is a good chance for us to put an end to that run. We are all gaining confidence and momentum from the last few games.

"We know it is going to be a tough game, they are well-organised and aggressive, so we need to give them full respect but at the same time, we need to concentrate on ourselves. There were a lot of positives to take from the game on Saturday but also a lot of things to build on.”

Montgomery won the Australian A-League Championship as both a player and as Head Coach of Central Coast Mariners and sees the Viaplay Cup as a good opportunity for his players to test themselves in the biggest games.

“The fact that you can be a couple of games away from a final is a fantastic opportunity for the Club as a collective and the players themselves. Some players never get that opportunity, but we need to focus on tomorrow’s game first and foremost.

“We have had a good week recovering, everyone is fully fit now and raring to go. We had a few knocks at the weekend so people needed a rest, but everyone is fighting for places now and everyone wants to play.”
