Nick Montgomery was “really frustrated” after his side fell to a disappointing 2-1 defeat at home to St Johnstone.

A late goal from Tony Gallacher earned the visitors all three points, despite Hibs controlling and dominating the game.

That result means that Hibs remain in seventh, one point and one place behind Dundee, with one game to go before the split.

When speaking to Hibs TV after the game, Montgomery summarised the defeat.

“I’m really frustrating. Football can be a really cruel game. Stats don’t win a game, but we had 72% possession and the opposition had two shots on target and scored two goals. We have to accept that’s not good enough. We had enough opportunities in the second half.

“The first half was 10-men behind the ball, they tried to make it difficult and hit us on the transition. We needed more composure in the first half and could’ve had a penalty on Marcondes, which we didn’t get.

“We knew we had to have more energy in the second half and move the ball quicker. We conceded a goal against the run of play, just a long ball in the channel and we got caught out at the back. When that happens, you have to stay composed. We got back into the game and created numerous opportunities to score; there were some good saves by the goalkeeper.

“We had to be better in both boxes and we got punished today. We have to accept that’s not good enough.”
