Nick Montgomery was devastated after his side’s draw with Motherwell saw Hibernian FC miss out on a top six finish.

A last-minute half-volley from Shane Blaney mean the Hibees only picked up a point, a result that didn’t better Dundee’s at Pittodrie. When speaking to Hibs TV after the game, Nick Montgomery described his immediate emotions.

“I’m devastated,” he said. “Really, really disappointed for everybody.”

“We more than deserved to win the game today. We were 20 seconds away from jubilation. The fans were amazing today, they pushed us through the game, and I think they can be proud of the performance.

“Everyone is disappointed, dejected, devastated that with 20 seconds to go, they had their only shot on target of the game and the boy scores a wonder strike which means we get one point which is not what we wanted or needed. It’s left us in a situation we didn’t want to be in.”

With Hibs now missing out on a top six finish, our Head Coach admitted that everyone at the Club now needs to reflect on what went wrong during the campaign.

“We have to reflect on the amount of points we’ve lost from winning positions. We should’ve killed off the game today, we had two or three opportunities to do that, and then we wouldn’t have conceded an equaliser in the 94th minute. It’s now important that everyone reflects on everything.

“I thought the preparation into the game was good and the boys showed a massive reaction with their performance. It’s not an easy place to come, but I thought we dominated the game. We were the team that looked likely to take three points, but we conceded in the 94th minute from a long thrown-in into the box.

“We have to reflect, and the players have to reflect because this season hasn’t been good enough.

“As a club we will look at how we’ve got to this point. I wasn’t here at pre-season, so we have to look right back to the summer to see how we’ve found ourselves in this position.

“It’s easy for me to say I think we deserved to be in the top six, but that’s football. We needed another two points today to give us a chance of the top six and to end the season on a high. I’m devastated because of all the hard work we’ve put in and it’s a really hard one to take.”
