Grant Scott has encouraged his Hibernian side to keep pressing on despite suffering a narrow defeat to Glasgow City.

The Hibees could not find a reply to Lauren Davidson’s header early in the first half despite improving after going behind.

Scott told Hibs TV he was impressed by his side’s play, but also challenged them to take their chances when in promising positions.

“There is a bit of deja-vu, where we’ve run another really good team very close. We’re showing signs of progress, I thought we showed enough moments and we’ll keep building on that and keep pushing forward.”

“If you look hard enough, you’ll always find excuses. But I think we should be doing better with our own execution in the final third. I think if we’re looking at the fall of the ball and bemoaning our luck, we’re clutching at straws a little.”

Scott praised the performance of Naomi Powell, whose set-pieces and passing play in midfield caused serious issues for Glasgow City.

“She’s done well again today. Bit by bit she’s cementing herself in the team. She works really hard and is one of those players that doesn’t need any encouragement.”

“At the moment, week-to-week, she’s really standing up and taking up good areas on the pitch. I thought we had other players today that were just as good.”

Scott also issued an update on Hibs midfielder Shannon McGregor, who was forced off with an injury midway through the first half.

“It was a little bit of caution. She’s had a problem that we’ve been managing her through for a couple of weeks, but these post-split matches are tough. She’s covered a lot of ground in the position she’s playing in.”

Before rounding things off, Scott gave an update on his early preparations ahead of our trip to Petershill Park - where we’ll face Partick Thistle on May 1st.

“We’re not losing any confidence. We’re disappointed and we absolutely want more. There’s not much between us and the current top three, but these small bits of quality at the top end of the field and keeping the ball out of the net at the other end now become really important.”
