Nick Montgomery was incredibly frustrated after his side drew 1-1 with Hearts at Tynecastle.

The Hibees took the lead through Emiliano Marcondes before Hearts scored in first half added time after they were awarded an incredibly contentious penalty.

Montgomery’s men pushed for a winner in the second half but couldn’t find a winning goal.

When speaking to Hibs TV after the game, our Head Coach gave his thoughts on the affair.

“I’m really disappointed, frustrated, angry. I feel sorry for the fans and our players that put that amount of effort in, and we deserved three points out of the game.

“I’m really proud of the effort and of the performance because of the way we played and the number of chances we created. They cleared three or four off the line and had a little bit of fortune.

“I just want to talk about how good we were tonight. I thought we deserved to win the game; I don’t think anyone can deny that.”

Hearts’ equaliser was the main talking point from the game after Kevin Clancy was sent to the VAR monitor to check his decision. He decided to stick to his on-field decision and Lawrence Shankland scored from the resulting spot kick.

“The VAR has called the referee over, so he doesn’t make a mistake and listen to the crowd shouting for a penalty. When it went to VAR and I saw it on the screen, in my opinion, it’s not a penalty. I don’t think anyone thought it was a penalty.

“The on-field referee made the decision and it’s another decision that’s gone against us. I feel sorry for the players and the fans tonight because they deserved three points.”

Despite that setback, Hibs pushed on and arguably deserved to win the game due to the number of quality chances that were created.

“We needed a bit of luck, which evaded us, but we needed to put the ball in the back of the net. We had enough chances to win two games tonight.

“The performances the last few weeks have deserved more points. We can’t change that, maybe we will get another apology, who knows, all we can do is prepare for another big game on the weekend.

“If we put in performances like that from now until the end of the season, then we will give ourselves a good chance to end the season well.”
