Hibs midfielder Joe Newell insists the squad are in a good place ahead of our Scottish Cup Quarter-Final with Rangers on Sunday.

The Hibees come into this one off the back of a five-match unbeaten run and Newell says the lads can take a lot of confidence from the last few weeks.

“We have had a good week’s training – we are all prepared and really excited for the game. It is a massive game, we are desperate to do well in the Scottish Cup and we are all looking forward to it.

“There have been a lot of different little factors that have all contributed to our upturn of form. We had a lot of new players come in who are now up to speed, we’ve been doing the basics a lot better, the foundations are there and we’ve improved defensively which have all helped.”

After wins over Forfar Athletic and Inverness in the Scottish Cup, the Hibees now take on Rangers in the quarter-finals at Easter Road, and Newell insists we have what it takes to progress to the next round.

“Being at home plays to our advantage”, Newell continued.

“We need to start fast, get the crowd on side and use that to our advantage. Hopefully we can get a good support there and we can feed off that atmosphere from the start.

“We can take a lot of confidence from our recent results and performances, we’ve got players back fit. We have no complaints, everyone is feeling good and we are in a good place.

“We are in a good space, we have a lot of boys who are in good form, we are playing well, so we just need to believe in ourselves.

“We are a good side when we play with the drive and the tempo that the Gaffer wants. We know we are more than capable of getting a good result, so we just need to have that belief. Aside from that, we need to have all the little details – be defensively sound and be good in both boxes and take our chances when they come.”

Now into his fifth season with the Club, the Hibs midfielder admitted how much the Scottish Cup meant to him.

“The Scottish Cup is the one I would love more than anything else to be honest. The day I do leave, I would love to have left a cup-winner, it would really mean the world to me.

“I am desperate to win trophies here, everyone knows the importance of the Cups – they are massive for the Club, and to win one would be incredible.”
