Grant Scott insists Hibernian Women 'must do better' after exiting the Scottish Cup.

First half goals from Poppy Lawson and Shannon McGregor had the team level at the break, but Sarah Ewens restored Rangers' lead after the hour mark. Three late goals after the 87th minute helped the visitors romp to a 6-2 quarter-final victory.

Speaking to Hibs TV following the match, Scott reviewed what was ultimately a game of two halves for Hibs.

"We are deeply disappointed again and I’m getting a bit fed up saying that, in truth.

"First half, I thought the team were outstanding. Very, very proud of them — which sounds ridiculous after the final result. Certainly first 45, we looked really organised and structured. The amount of bite about us. Some wonderful football.

"If I’m being really honest, I thought the goals we lost were really poor from our side. If you do a bit better in the critical moments, we could be leading the game going in at half-time. As I say, first half I thought the players were excellent. They executed everything we told them and didn’t allow Rangers to build well. We were doing well at that point but we need to do better for 90 minutes."

Scott praised Kirsty Morrison's "excellent" performance after she captained the side on her centenary appearance for Hibs Women. The forward was unlucky not to put Hibs ahead moments before Rangers snuck up the park to snatch the lead for themselves.

"The chance Kirsty has, nine out of ten times she probably executes. Thirty seconds later, they’re up the pitch and it’s three-nil to them.

"Straight off the back of that Tegan goes off as well," Scott continued.

"Tegan’s had a long, long journey back to the in the match squad. I thought she was excellent too, but she ran out of steam and pulled up with a bit of cramp so that’s understandable. But when we are sitting so well in the game, it definitely disrupts the balance when you have to make those enforced changes."

The harsh defeat rules out any chance of silverware for the campaign, but Scott is keen to brush off any sorrows and focus on finishing as high in the league as possible.

"We are disappointed to be out the cup. It was a great opportunity for us today — at home, which is all you can ask for in cup games. But [we were] up against a very talented opposition who are very hard to overcome.

"We will dust ourselves down again and it’s back to league business. We are in the business end of the season, we’ve got to make things happen for ourselves. We’ll bounce back and be ready for next week."
