We’re back at Easter Road this weekend for the first Edinburgh Derby of the 2024/25 William Hill Premiership campaign – read the full match preview below!

The Lowdown

We will take on our local rivals, Hearts, on Sunday, live in front of the Sky Sports cameras; 12 noon kick-off on Sunday 27 October.

We come into this game off the back of added-time heartbreak against Dundee United, and will be looking to kick-start our season this weekend.

We currently sit 12th in the league table, with five points after eight fixtures, below Hearts on goal difference.

Our Opponents

Hearts have endured a difficult start to the 2024/25 campaign, but will be buoyed from their emphatic victory over St Mirren last weekend.

In what was Neil Critchley’s first game in charge, the Jambos ran out 4-0 winners thanks to goals from Kenneth Vargas, Daniel Oyegoke, James Wilson and Blair Spittal.

That win saw them rise to 11th in the league table having won one, drawn two and lost six games this season. Hearts have played an extra game than Hibs this season.

Hearts are yet to pick up any points on the road this season having lost all five away league games. In those games they’ve scored five goals, but conceded 13.

Critchley’s side will come into this weekend’s game off the back of a European tie, though, as they face Cypriot side Omonoia on Thursday; 5.45pm kick-off at Tynecastle.

Team News

David Gray will definitely be without two Hibees for this weekend’s match.

Joe Newell will miss out after he saw red on Saturday’s defeat to Dundee United, whilst Kieron Bowie continues to recover from his long-term hamstring injury.

There’s a welcome return, though, for Nectar Triantis, who’s available for selection after his suspension.

Both Chris & Nicky Cadden will be assessed prior to the weekend. Chris came off in the defeat to Dundee United, whilst Nicky has been working with the physios after picking up a knock in training.
