Born in Zaragoza, Spain – Mayenda has spent most of his playing career in France, featuring for CS Brétigny before signing for French side, Sochaux in 2019.

At the age of 16, Mayenda made his senior debut for Sochaux – coming off the bench against FC Nantes in the Coupe de France. In doing so, the talented forward became the youngest ever player to play for the French Ligue 2 side (16 years old, 7 months and 10 days).

Two months later Mayenda broke another record, becoming the youngest-ever professional player for Sochaux after signing his first professional contract in February 2022.

The young Spaniard went on to make 16 First Team appearances for Sochaux scoring one goal and topping up his playing time with the U19s and Sochaux B during his time in France.

In summer 2023 – at 18 years of age – Mayenda made the jump to the English Championship, penning a five-year deal with Sunderland.

After missing the first couple of months of the season through injury, Mayenda worked his way into Tony Mowbray’s First Team squad in November. The forward made his debut in a 3-1 victory over Birmingham City – the same match that fellow Hibee Deadline Day signing, Nectarios Triantis, made his debut for The Black Cats.

In the last couple of months, Mayenda has gone on to make eight Championship appearances for Sunderland featuring predominantly through the middle or on the right-hand side of midfield.

The talented teenager also has international experience under his belt, earning three caps for the Spain Under-17 National Team, all of which came in the Algarve Tournament in February 2022.
