Taking a leadership role in addressing the global challenge of Climate Change
100% of the club's energy is from renewable sources. Currently investigating biomass and ground source heat pump options at Hibernian High Performance Centre and the potential for a solar PV farm on the campus
By the end of 2020 100% of all matchday waste will be recycled. Vegan options are currently available in stadiums kiosks, further plant based options are being added. Remove all single use plastics across catering including; straws, sauce sachets, stirrers and food containers. Electrifying the current club fleet to electric vehicles will save around 3% of the club’s current CO2 output.
We are aligned to the integrated travel plan launched by Edinburgh City Council and aim to reduce the current 48% of attendees who travel by car to matches through travel partners. Electric charging points to be installed around Easter Road Stadium with free parking initiatives for EV's on match days
Social and environmental activations are now at the heart of all commercial conversations. We will be adopting
sustainable procurement policies working with club partners to develop improved products and services.
Promote & Educate
Football provides a global platform to promote sustainable and responsible consumption. This provides us and our partners with a unique opportunity to be leading advocates of climate action. Indeed Scottish football is the most supported game per capita in the whole of Europe with nearly three times the amount of our closest nations: Norway and Portugal.
Our platform allows us to promote and educate:
Fans - while SPFL games are broadcast to over 160 countries around the world, closer to home nearly 250,000 fans turned out to see our Scottish Cup winning parade.
Corporate - we're connected to a thriving Capital City; corporate Edinburgh manages over £50 billion in funds.
Other Sporting Bodies - we are 'The Greenest Club in Scotland' and will provide leadership and collaborate with others to encourage them to follow suit.
Government Bodies - we leverage our leadership position and existing relationships with the Scottish Government and its associated bodies.
